Dear  Mitchell Family,
Your son arrived in the Australia Sydney North Mission safely.  Thank you for entrusting him into our care for the time of  his mission.  Sister Checketts and I are mindful of the great trust you have placed in us by sharing your son with us.  When Elder Mitchell arrived, we met him at the airport and took him to the mission office for lunch and orientation.  We are including a picture of your wonderful missionary with his intake and with us.
Elder Mitchell's companion is Elder Moulton who is from Texas .  They will be serving in the Newcastle North Zone.
Our mission is considered to be one of the most beautiful in the world.  I am aware that the Lord blesses the families of missionaries in many special ways.  As your son serves, you will find that to be very true.  Your support is greatly appreciated.  You may contact the mission president, should the need arise, at 2010151@ldschurch.org at any time.  Missionaries are allowed to send and receive email.  They check it at the local library on preparation day, which is usually Monday but can change depending on weekly circumstances.
Warmest Regards,
President Max L Checketts

He's on his way to Australia!
A complete stranger was kind enough to send me this picture of Elder Mitchell!  He's well, so excited, and on his way to Australia!  What an answer to my prayer this morning.  We also got to talk with him.  It was so good to hear his voice and to hear that he is truly happy and excited to serve!  Thank you to the stranger who snapped this photo and thought enough to send it to us missionary mommas!

MTC

MTC Companions:  Elder Sibbett and Elder Mitchell
These two get along great!  They both love sports, music, and preaching the gospel!

Elder Mitchell's email Sept. 22: Hey guys! The MTC is really awesome in case you were wondering. They don't give you any time to adjust tho, we have already taught 3 different investigators and probably 10 lessons. My companion's name is Elder Sibbett and he is from Arkansas. You would all love him, he is so cool. we have been practicing an a capella of "Mary Did You Know" that is actually really good (according to us) He sings and I beatbox as we walk from building to building. our mixtape will be on soundcloud in about 2 weeks. haha just kidding!! The spirit is so strong here! We had a devotional and the speaker told us that we are in a flower shop and we need to remember to smell the roses! But it is so nice to have, and completely different from anything I have ever known. It was not what I expected either. We have class all day, but most of the time there are no teachers. We have to do the learning ourselves, and if we don't its our fault. we mostly are studying for our lessons with investigators, but when the teachers are there we get to learn how to teach better. Its so easy to not be shy too. I have learned so much that I didn't even know I needed to learn, and its only week 1. I saw Jaden Yesterday and Today and that was really cool, and I was glad to see a familiar face. He looked really happy excited to be here and I was happy for that. I got called as the District leader which is way cool, and the best part about that is I get to be the mailman!! Its so fun to hand out everyones letters and see how happy it makes them. I'm sorry I havent really said anything, I just dont know what to write, hopefully I get better at emails. Until then, goodluck everyone, I love you all. Thanks for all the love, prayers and especially letters! those are great!

Elder Mitchell

When Elder Mitchell arrived at the MTC, he was called to be the District Leader.  This is his district.  He met and made so many great friends within his district.
Sept. 29:  Hey everyone!! First of all thanks so much for everything that you've all sent me! Its so awesome! I love hearing from everyone, I love to know whats going on and how everyone is. So here is a story: Last week on Friday everyone in my district got their flight plans... Except Elder Sibbett, Sister Hartley, and myself. We are all going to Sydney North. So we just thought that we'd have to wait a couple days because our flight plans were different than the others. We waited and waited and finally YESTERDAY we decided to go to the travel office and ask about it. We then learned that they had forgotten about us, but luckily they gave us our flight plans right there. so we now know that we will be flying to San Fran, then to Auckland New Zealand, then to Sydney. We leave on Monday!
Elder Sibbett and I learned a lesson about teaching. We were teaching an investigator and it was going good, then at the end of the lesson he said, "I'm sorry guys, you're just so boring." So the next lesson with him we changed up a bit and long story short he agreed to baptism. Hopefully we can find some "MTC" investigators in the field! But the moral of the story is that the person we are teaching is important, not the lesson we are teaching, so focus on them. He took a picture with us at the end of our meetings i'll try to send. He ended up liking us because "you aren't like other white boys."
We got to listen to a talk by Elder Bednar a while ago, and he said something I'd like to share with you all (especially you Mom). He said that he gets a blue BoM when he has something he wants to study and reads the entire book, highlighting the relevant verses, and then by the end he has the best answer he could've asked for. Then he thinks of a new question and starts over. He now has a whole bookshelf and whenever he needs to reflect on a question he can just open the corresponding BoM! He invited us to try to do our scripture study like that and I thought it was really awesome!
also want to say how awesome my District is. It's honestly the best district in the whole MTC. My companion is the best in the MTC also. Its going to be sad to say goodbye to all of them on Monday!
Oh I just remembered something. Last night Elder Sibbett what telling our district a story about a boat apocalypse where all of the boats in the world got flipped upside down and they couldn't be turned over. It was the funniest thing because he was making it up on the spot. We ended up confirming that it was Illuminati. And we also confirmed that it was related to missionary work. So, Upside down boats is illuminati is missionary work confirmed haha! Ok it was funny you'll just have to trust me.
My next email will be from Australia, so drive safe kids. I Love you all! Can't wait to tell you about it! Thank you for all your prayers and support, I can definitely feel it!
Love

MTC
Nearly nineteen years ago Kai was given a name and a blessing in sacrament meeting.  It was a Fast Sunday, and the sweetest lady stood to share her testimony.  Her son was entering the MTC that following week.  She looked right at Kenny and me, and said, "Enjoy every moment with that precious baby boy because from where you are to where I am happens in the blink of an eye."  Well, I guess I blinked.  And much too quickly.  We have enjoyed every moment though.  He was so ready and will be an amazing missionary.  I just hope I can pull it together and me an awesome momma to support him.  I love you, son!  See you in two!

He looked back once, smiled that contagious smile, waved, and he was off.  He was so ready!

Best Buddies!

This little one will miss him terribly!  She doesn't even understand how long two years really is yet.

One last family photo!

Kai spoke in church today.  He enters the MTC on Wednesday.  He gave a really good talk.  Thank you friends and family who came and supported him today.  He was overwhelmed with your love and kindness.

Things got real for these two today.  They realized they were actually going to be separated for two whole years.  I'm so grateful these two kids of mine are the best of friends.

Maci's Baptism

When Kai read his mission call we were all just wanting to know WHERE, but his little sister was waiting to hear WHEN.  Unbeknownst to the rest of us, she had been praying every night since he put in his papers that he would be here to baptize her.  We were pretty sure that it was unlikely he would be around.  We thought for sure he would be leaving much sooner.  When he read his MTC enter date Maci yelled, "Heavenly Father answered my prayers!"  We all looked at her inquisitively and said, "You were praying for him to go to Australia?"  "No, I was praying that he wouldn't leave until after my baptism so he could baptize me before he left."  There you have it folks, the faith of a child.
